    Elgin M-60 plate is a welded chromium carbide overlay on a mild steel backing plate. The application is done using a proprietary process and custom designed welding machinery.

The resulting Elgin M-60 plate products exhibit the following characteristics:

Elgin M-60 overlays are distinguished by a wide smooth bead shape parallel to the width of the plates with a clearly defined and well developed pattern of stress cracking. Visible cracks on the surface do not reduce the performance of the hard facing. They  are in the hard facing overlay only and do not progress into the backing plate.
